Pardon me sirbutcouldyou--

I just read an email which included the words "we might need Ida to come in as an understudy for next week's shows, which means we need to have a rehearsal some time this week."

Uh. Who's in the what, now?

Let's just dial up the ole voice mail, shall we? Aha! There's the part where I'm actually asked to do the above thing, y'know, understudy a role which includes seven characters, which are: a hag, a snapping turtle, a water scorpion, a snake, a bunch of tadpoles, a baby frog, a princess...and a bunch of complicated blocking...

True, true, this would be for a show that I adapted and directed, but...I AM FREAKING OUT JUST A LITTLE BIT RIGHT NOW.

Of course, I would get to wear that American Flag kerchief...

Hey, at least somebody (at some point in the process) actually had enough presence of mind to think to ASK you. It's the times they just decide to volunteer you WITHOUT asking that are the most annoying...

True, this was a case of racing sets of modern technology, but let me add that the show performs four times next week and I only get to rehearse once and I won't know whether I really have to do it or not until next Monday night AND I AM STILL FREAKING OUT APPARENTLY.

Try running in circles and flapping your hands like useless chicken wings. It always helps me to calm down.

I learned it in home schoolin'!

Mmmm, arm flappin'. Plenty of exercise and gettin' nowheres.

I just sent an email to the folk who "asked" me to do this asking all the questions I should have yesterday, ie Are You Sure it's a Good Idea for the Show to Go On in This Manner?

Because memorizing a 27-page script plus one rehearsal does not a safe environment make.

READ: I am still arm flapping. Updates to follow.

Halle-fuckin-lujah: I'm in the clear.

Now I just have to meet with the injured actor to change her blocking.

I tell you, sometimes I just want to shake theatre people, shake them like a baby.
