"Like the cartoon--'I will hug him and squeeze him and name him George.'"
The fifteen-year-old actor stared at me blankly. She'd never heard of nor seen the classic Looney Tunes abominable snowman bit. I thought for a minute and took location into considertaion.
"Do you know Of Mice and Men."
"Yeah."
"Lennie. Like Lennie and the puppy."
"Oh!"
I should point out here that I've never actually read Of Mice and Men, but after the conversation, her character was delightful.

Also, not sure if when they do they show the original versions or the edited-to-remove-gratuitous-violence versions from the eighties. It's a shame, really. Who is teaching the children? Where will they learn the proper usage of such phrases as:
"I'm going to blow it up. Isn't that delightful?"
"23 Skidoo! Chicken inspector."
"I knew I shoulda taken that right turn at Albequerque."
"I like the way that rolls out: Wile E. Coyote, super genius."
"You're despicable."
"Kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit, kill the wabbit..."
Not to mention failing to understand the etymology of such classic phrases as:
"No! Play it THIS way, ya' long-eared galoot!"
"Gold! Gold! Gold! Mine! Mine! Mine!"
"Mornin' Ralph."
"Mornin' Sam."
"Unga-bunga-binga, Inga-binga-binga-boo!"
"I say, that dog's about as sharp as a bowlin' ball."
Thank you, I feel better now...

Posted by: benlau at March 2, 2005 10:52 AM"What an ultra-maroon! What a nin-cow-poop!"
"Wabbit Season!!"
"Duck Season!!"
"Why it's baseball season, son!"
Oh and also, "There's an Abominable Snowman in the market. Whoooooooooooa..."
But that's a song, not a cartoon...
And where are the children going to learn their opera music?
