I went discount-bin CRAZY at the record store last night. After 45 minutes of *flip*-*flip*-*flip* and gentle swaying at the hips, I boldly faced the counter with the following bargains:
James Brown: James Brown Live at the Appollo
Sly and the Family Stone: Different Strokes by Different Folks (a remix record)
Nirvana: In Utero
Jurassic5: Quality Control
Yo La Tengo: I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One
The Jimi Hendrix Experience: BBC Sessions
Steel Pulse: Earth Crisis
U2: War
Fugees: The Score
Paul McCartney & Wings: Band on the Run (this is the 3rd time I've purchased this particular bit of music. Don't you judge my love.)
and lastly: Justin Timberlake: Justified.
Why do I tell you people this? Mostly to note that my tastes are becoming less and less particular. Got a guilty pleasure? I'd especially like secret loves that are shop-suitable.
Posted by Sonya at August 28, 2006 11:15 AMHey, BOTR is a GREAT pop album! It was even "Rolling Stone" magazine's Album Of The Year in 1974.
AFAIC, any group that puts James Coburn AND Christopher Lee on its cover is okay in my book!
Posted by: COMTE at August 28, 2006 02:35 PMMine is magazines. I only subscribe to National Geographic (thanks mom and dad!) and The Ecologist, but the trip to the newstand is a way of life when living in Seattle. Mostly simple home design ones like Dwell or Natural Living, or green lifestyle ones like Permaculture or Backwoods Life or whatever its called. But occasionally I'll get all crazy and get one of those expensive super-modern art design ones, or a high concept fashion photography one like W, which I used to buy regularly a few years ago. Also on the mag list: gardening mags, Mother Jones, Utne Reader, and cheesy lifestyle ones like Simple.
This pastime has been ditched while in Cardiff--it seems I shouldn't spend time and money on magazines when I've got so much real reading to do and won't be able to bring them home with me anyway. (Oh yeah, I collect them) Sad.
Posted by: Appalachia at August 29, 2006 06:28 AMKelly Clarkston "Since you've been gone." It's just such a perfect pop song. I'm going to hell.

Posted by: sonya at August 29, 2006 10:29 AMGuilty: A whole lotta Hall, a lil' sprinkling of Oates. What?
What's the use of worrying?
