Last night I started awake to a symphony. A terrible, one-man symphony bellowing in the lots and alleys below my window. His strings, shouts of "YEAH BABY!", his horns hooting "WHOO! HOO HOO HOO GIRL!". He stomped and beat the pavement unseen, but heard so clearly that I could have sworn he was sitting next to me. And -like any piece of terrible performance- it lasted forever. After an hour of trying to echolocate and wondering about what motivates, I put a pillow over my head and concentrated hard on the beat of my own blood rushing through my veins. Someone must have called the police, eventually. Or maybe he just got tired. You can only scream your head off to no one for so long.
