mean pinball

1: Seriously dude. Are you really going to make me come over there and explain why you: A)have to buy something and B)have to wear your shoes? You are? You totally are.

2: I think I broke my finger playing kickball last month. I thought it was just jammed, but now it's been 5ish weeks and pinkie-fingie is a funny shape and still swollen and painful. Do you think I should see about having it set, or just try and exercise it back into shape? Any of you people ever just leave one and have it turn out okay? (I can't really work if I have to wear a splint. Having it set would be really expensive in several ways.)

3:It's been cool and overcast, which probably sounds great for the rest of the nation but we've barely hot and sweatied at all over here. I haven't done enough swimming yet!

When my little toe was stepped on by the great big horse about 13 years ago, I just taped it to the next toe over and went on my merry way until it set - IIRC it took about six weeks or so.

But, if it's already been 5 weeks, chances are the bone has fairly well knit itself, although from the sounds of it, perhaps not in perfect alignment, in which case, I'm not sure there's much you could do to fix it, short of maybe having it rebroken & set properly, which I imagine would be both painful AND expensive.

Group Health has pretty good emergency care for people who qualify for economic aid -- call them and ask if you qualify. Also, Washington Basic Health Plan is currently taking people (it takes a while to get signed up, though.) For immediate problems (like this one) the Country Doctor is pretty great, although I don't know if they treat broken bones. But I'll bet they could at least give you an idea if you needed some kind of more serious treatment.

Let me know if you need any information about the above options, as I've made use of most of them.

I broke my nose and didn't have it set. It's certainly not my old nose, but it'll do.

Well, it'll do well enough for me. My aunts are all on me to get a nose job (no thanks, then the phrase "I've had a nose job" will be a part of my vocabulary).

So if you have any vain aunts who are concerned about pinkie posture, you might want to have it checked out. Otherwise you're probably fine. But, if it is still hurting like nuts, that's not a good sign. Perhaps you can call one of those nurse hotlines?

Put some butter on it!

What will people think when they see you drinking tea and your pinky is all crooked?

Seriously, go to the doctor! :P

If you want, we can re-break it and reset it. Which is also a good excuse to get really drunk.

All I need is two pieces of pipe, some cotton balls, a screen door hinge, a roll of dental floss and a torque wrench. It'll be scientific as fuck.
