caught in a fire

I'm somewhere between kicking academic ass and drowing in academic crap. I aced the tests plus extra credits in 2 classes last week, but I'm still so close to losing all control and exploding into space that it's not even funny. So today, after I finished paper one of two for this week, I called Tiny and we booked me a flight to SF for New Year. Tiny is truely my fairy godmother. Not only is she getting me to the ball, she's also paying for the pumpkin.

and she's lovin him with that body, I just know it.

I'm having a totally Rick Springfield Thanksgiving, aparently. He has a blog. I love that I can pull out a record that was made the same year I was born, get totally gushy about it, and jump on the internet to read something he wrote yesterday. Swoon!

I spent last night making a pumpkin cheesecake, southern cornbread, and a hundred million parker house rolls. The oven was on from 3 to 10.
Today I'm making cornbread pepper stuffing, roasted asparagus and brussell sprouts, pertaters, and a squash something.
I love The Joy of Cooking. I pishawed Patrickt when he told me it would change my life, but -once again- he called it. A Rick Springfeild Joy of Cooking Thanksgiveranza!

This thanksgiving, I'm most thankful for:
Forgiveness.
Vitality.
The unwavering support of my family.

putting all the clothes you washed away

Oh internet, remember this summer when life was full of beach towells and easy one-pieces with bathing suits underneath? Can't I take my first 7 years of retirement now? I swear, I'm good for it. I want to live in a motorhome in Arizona for the winter months.

In other news, Biology lab was conducted in the student lobby today because of a gas leak. I'm getting an 87%
Our 5 day group presentation on Teen Sensations of American Popular Music is in a week. I can tell you an fantastic amount of information about Dick Clark, American Bandstand, Buena Vista, Philadelphia Rock, and the formation of a pop star. (For Teen Girls: use someone who is already on television or in a movie. For Teen Boys: use someone who closely resembles the current leading man. Non threatening.)
I'm reading all about studies in body language. I'm dedicated to getting my fingertips under control. Also, I'm determined to see if I can manipulate this information to my advantage. Apparently, all you have to do to make someone love you is mimick their actions and walk past them a couple of times. And when they ask me if I'm copying and stalking them? I'll know how to look like I'm not lying. Brilliant.

I'm feeling a little burnt out, but intellectually stimulated. I smell like coffee all damn day, but I get to keep the (already short) sunlight hours to myself, walking around in scarfs and hats, or enjoying them through our giant windows in our killer apartment.

Souxie fills our home with the warm sounds of Jamaica, and we rock about the house to keep warm. What's new with you?

"Lets take one of you and me, Grandma."

"Now lets see how it turned out."

"You can just look at it right now? That just about blows my mind. OH! Ha! Who is that old lady?!"

roll out the barrell

I just crafted a works referenced page so fantastic and decadent that it made me drool a little bit. I've been sitting crosslegged on the floor like a good little monk for hours now. Listening to dramatic big band music relating to the second world war and considering the 1942 race riots in relation to Bing Crosby and Irving Berlin. Did you know that I own a fantastic amount of music released by Readers Digest? I do. I'm the queen of 10 record compilations.

What I thought was going to be a 3am, 15 hour car ride with both my sisters, my dad and seven kids has turned out to be a 5am, 8 hour car ride with my dad, one sister, and 3 kids who are actually almost my age. (I was only five when b. was born. We're closer in age than Cake and I.)

I just finished my research paper, and when I looked out the window I thought for sure it was going to be 8:30 or 9 because it's pitch fucking black out. No! 6:38! Daylight losing just scored it's first point by suprising me in a delightful manner. And I finished my paper!

I'll come back from So. Idaho with strange but familiar smells in my memory and pictures of my family. And my nephew's last football game before graduation. The sweet little baby is graduating! (weird.)
