A Simple Plan

My mother says "Never, ever wake a sleeping baby." That sounds like good advice. Simple. You know. But the baby sleeps a LOT during the day and doesn't sleep at night. So I'm thinking, you know, try and keep the baby awake and entertained during the day and she'll sleep at night.

There is a problem with this plan.

Everytime the baby nurses she falls asleep. Which presents me with the dubious task of Waking Up the Baby. And now I know.

What happens when you wake up a sleeping baby is this:
The baby cries continuously and unrelentingly until she either falls back to sleep or you help her fall back to sleep.

Yep.

You know, they make these neat collars that emit a tiny electric shock whenever the wearer makes a loud noise. I've always wondered...

I knew a lady with beagles who tried those. All it did was make the dog yelp after each bark. Double the fun!

Maybe you can train "le bebe" to sleep all the time -- like cats.

- when i was a baby apparently i slept All The Time (so, no changes there). my mom was worried about my not eating in favor of sleep and also disfollowed the not waking the sleeping baby advice.
- mums also tried the dog shocker...on a dog, not on me...and it similarly didn't work.
- if you tried to train cats to sleep, they'd stop.
