great expectations

Once upon a time this was a blog called Strip Mining for Whimsy, authored by Joshua Norton II, Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico. For the better part of 5 years Strip Mining was a major source of news, information, and literary nonfiction for thousands of daily readers. Excerpts from Strip Mining appeared in the Seattle Times, New Yorker and The Boston Literary Review. At least one person named their first-born son after Emperor Norton. However, as all good things must, Strip Mining for Whimsy eventually came to an end in March of 2007.

All material ever published on this site was and remains the exclusive property of the author. Strip Mining for Whimsy is a trade mark of Noematic Ltd.
